Afro hairstyles

An Afro, sometimes shortened to 'fro and also known as a "natural", is a hairstyle worn naturally by people with lengthy kinky hair texture or specifically styled in such a fashion by individuals with naturally curly or straight hair.

Afro-textured hair is a term used to refer to the typical texture of Black African hair that has not been altered by hot combs, flat irons, or chemicals (by perming, relaxing, or straightening). Each strand of this hair type grows in a tiny spring-like, corkscrew shape.

The overall effect is such that, despite relatively fewer actual hair shafts compared to straight hair, this texture appears (and feels) denser than its straight counterparts.

To increase the use of more natural products, like honey and essential oils and castile soap. They looked like they work at first but then the dryness starts - no good. The styling products - mineral oil and petroleum products. And then on Sunday do a deep conditioner with Le Kair (pink) under hood dryer and then add hair strengthener and MTG.

For example, on Saturday night you could pre-poo with honey, olive oil and a mixture of oils, infused with herbs, put on plastic cap. Clip the ends at least once a month to get rid of any frizzy ends. Add jojoba oil to the hair and do box braids before completely dry. Let it air.

When hair is not in braids, wash (Suave fortifying formula for dry hair) the hair on wednesdays air dry/ add hair strengthener/ leave in conditioner (detangler MTG). Add emu oil mixed with a few drops of lavender ess oil to the roots before totally dry. Then add hair strenghther and braid sheen, then moisturizing gel to retain the moisture. In braids, with shampoo and conditioner everyday. Braids on and off.

The afro was another hairstyle that was adapted during the seventies and is still seen today. Black men and women would grow out their hair during this time of black power and pride to show that beauty was not only found in one shape or form. Today this same hairstyle is still seen everywhere and is not likely to ever go out of style!
