Last time I have showed one copy. They have asked for the second one which I did not take with me.
The POE officer said that USCIS normally sends two copies one for the applicant and one for POE to retain as a proof of entry.
They also said it is ok if we don't take the second one with us.
They just took a copy of the first one and kept it for their records.

Sorry you cannot claim. You have been a resident of GA, so rent/meals/commutation/laundry cannot be claimed as deductions in Tax return. You never had a home in NY/NJ. You will surely be a RED flag for IRS. Dont do wrong things to get some money. State the truth and be satisfied of the tax return you get.
However, you can surely ask your employer to give a part of your salary as expense reimbursement, which is legal.
Trust me, you get more tax return here in US, than in India.

can you please let me know when is the USCIS fee increase is scheduled from?
Also, say for I-485 the fee is 1000, does this fee include for spouse also? Or For spouse, the fee is extra $1000 ie the fee is per applicant or per family

Please help me to get out of this confusion.
My H4-H1 Adjustment of status is approved and i have Advance parole and EAD with me through my husbands i485 application.I need to travel to india in jan/feb 2008 for 2-3weeks.I may not be able to go for stamping at that time.My H4 visa stamp is valid till sep2008.My H1 approval notice is valid till sep2010.
My question is,can i travel to india and come back without H1 stamping using Advance parole?If i come in using Advance parole can i work again on H1 or do i need to use EAD?

As long as your Advance parole is not expired, you should be able to travel with it. If your Advance parole is going to expire around the time you are planning travel; you should renew your advance parole.
As far as I can see, yours is a straight forward case.

NIW 140 approved last year. EB1a 140 RFE/485 pending. Can I file a new 485 for NIW? or do I have to withdraw the pending 485 before filing the new 485?

I am in similar boat. What does your lawyer say? I am waiting for my lawyer response. How about option on interfiling NIW 140 with the pending I-485. That is do not file new I-485 but change underlined I-140 in the old one. Ask your lawyer about that and let us also know whats his/her response.

... But the consulting firm advised against it as according to them if she re-enters in H4 (even before Oct 1) while her H1 approval is pending, her H1 application will be cancelled and she has to restart the process all over again. Something to do with the last status on re-entry.
I think this issue used to be there. Why do you think otherwise? COS is not computerized to happen on Oct 1. It is manual process, while approving H1B, it is done. When someone enters after that on H4, then that COS is overwritten.

Another option is for someone to collect your GC and mail it with a reliable service abroad (FedEX etc.) - in anticipation of some disagreement, this is perfectly legal - it is not a passport and is a entry document not a departure doc.
