SpaRitual Imagine Collection Fall 2010 (Partial)

Here's a couple of the polishes from SpaRitual's fall collection. The big standout of the collection is definitely Health, Wealth and Happiness:

Health, Wealth and Happiness. Don't mind the tipwear, this many was two days old when I took the pictures. It's a crazy-awesome duochrome in the bottle but less so on the nail. Still duochrome enough to make me love it. The base is a deep blue shimmer with purple duochrome. It reminds me of some of the old Sally Hansen Prisms layered- maybe Burgundy Orchid over black?

A World Of Compassion. A slate/periwinkle/lavender mix in a creme finish. Very soft and calming. I'm actually rather fond of this one. Understated color.

Dreams Becoming Reality. Medium teal creme, bordering on the blue side of teal. I think I like the look of teal more than I like how it looks on me. I think I have a hard time pulling off this color. That said, it's lovely to look at. It's nice to see a lighter, cleaner shade of teal, too. Seems like a lot of the ones I've seen recently are dark or dusty. This one's only a little dusty.

The formula on these was so-so. I'm not generally a fan of SpaRitual's formula- I found these to be runny. They had that 3-Free texture- runny and drippy yet thick. The opacity was varied- Health Wealth and Happiness needed three coats, A World Of Compassion needed two and Dreams Becoming Reality was an almost-one coater. I did three of all. Drying time is painfully long.

Unfortunately I don't have the rest of the shades to review so I can't comment on the collection as a whole. However, I do like these three colors. A lot of SpaRitual colors seem to be themed- most of them are calm, earthy or relaxing spa-type colors. Some of them are just Orly colors in a prettier bottle. One thing I'm noticing about this brand (still new to me) is that the names veer dangerously close to Misa-Cheese territory.

(These were sent to me for review.)

Comparison: SpaRitual It's Raining Men vs. Orly Sky Blue Pink

It just dawned on me what that Meow Skeptic shadow reminds me of- Orly Sky Blue Pink!

I don't know if I've ever posted that color here... It's an old one but it's really, really pretty.

I was getting ready to edit some of those China Glaze photos so I was trying to clear out all the pictures I hadn't edited yet, and this comparison was one of them! Yes... it has been open and unedited for months... that's how far behind I've gotten. Yikes! I mean, when did I take these pictures, January or something? O_o

Anyway, the reason I did the comparison was that while I was swatching my Orly collection, I noticed that a lot of the SpaRituals I had in the same drawer seemed identical to Orlys... and you know what? They were. This is one of them:

Index and ring finger: SpaRitual It's Raining Men
Middle and pinkie finger: Orly Sky Blue Pink

Very slight differences in formula and intensity, but still the same color. I'm sure Sky Blue Pink has received a formula update since I bought my ancient bottle, but mine's very thin and needed four coats. I did four coats of the SpaRitual too, just to be even. The SpaRitual seemed more opaque. I might have to pick up a new formula bottle of Sky Blue Pink one of these days to see if they thickened it at all.

And this is what reminded me:

It's totally the same color! Periwinkle blue with a really strong pink-gold duochrome! Sweeeeeeet. I love when I have an eyeshadow the same color as an awesome nail polish.

Sparitual Forbidden Collection Fall 2009

Here's SpaRitual's collection for fall: Forbidden.

Edit: Siobhan has really good swatches of these as well- we must be on the same wavelength lately!

Hush. Warm milk chocolate creme. I broke a nail in the middle of swatching this color and I didn't feel like taking off all the polish, fixing the nail and re-photographing it so... hehehe... sorry... Anyway... This is a very warm medium 'milk chocolate' creme shade. Outside the sunlight picks up more of the red tones, indoors it looks a little richer and darker.

Hypnotic. Warm charcoal frost. This is an odd color- it seems charcoal grey but it also has brown in it- brown-grey? In the bottle it looks more brown, on the nail it looks more grey. It's a shimmery frost, and for a frost it doesn't look so bad on my hands. I really like this.

Intrigue. Rich red-orange creme. This looks pretty red here, but it leans way orange in real life. Very orange-toned red. It seems to be nearly identical to Orly Poison Apple (I'll have the Orly fall collection posted soon so you can see the similarity).

Inner Sanctum. Warm peach creme. I say peach because I'm not sure how else to describe this.... It's warm, it's kinda red but kinda brown, natural and flesh-toned looking... I think it falls into the peach category. Again, the sunlight picks up the warm tones in it and in the shade it looks less warm/red.

Mystic. Neutral putty creme. My favorite from this collection. It's so normal but so strange! It's not a loud color, it's not green or purple or neon pink, yet still, I love it. It's sandy, creamy, mushroomy, putty-like. It has that same kind of 'edgy' look that Rescue Beauty Lounge Grunge has.

Regal. Warm purple creme. This is a really pretty purple. Again, warmer in the sunlight than in the shade. It looks darker on my nails than it seems in the bottle.

The formula on these is decent. I did three coats on all the colors, some were more sheer than others. It wasn't particularly thick or particularly thin- in fact, it seemed just like Orly's formula to me. No problems with application- if you're used to Orly's formula you should have no trouble with these. Drying time is long, even with quick dry topcoat. Again, just like Orly. I also love the rubberized handle (noticing a trend? Haha!).

Overall, a very reserved, mature collection. Nothing wacky, nothing uber-fun, but not bad at all. I like all the colors except Inner Sanctum. I especially love Mystic, I'll be wearing this one often. They're calm earth tones. Very spa-like, and I think that's probably what this line goes for- a spa-like feel to the colors.

I believe the release date for these is September. I'm not sure which retail stores carry these, but I know you can get them from Sparkling*Nails on ebay.
