My Blue Gloss Collection

I have a bit of an obsession with lipgloss. That's no secret, especially if you've ever seen inside my purse. But, there's an obsession within the obsession, and that is the obsession with blue lipgloss. Most people I know go, "Ewww, blue lips? Freak!" but it's really not as funky as it sounds! Most blue glosses are rather sheer; instead of making you look cyanotic, they only add a cool hue to your lips and make your teeth look whiter.

Whenever I see a blue gloss or lipstick, I have to get it. I've missed out on a few that I wish I had (MAC Peacocky, waaah) but I'm always on the lookout for them.

Here's most of my blue gloss stash (I'm missing at least one Lancôme, maybe a few others):

Left to right: Milani 3D Glitzy Gloss in Movie Star, MAC Dazzleglass in Comet Blue, MAC Blue Memory, MAC Greenhouse, Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Dreamworld, Philosophy Snow Kiss, Maybelline Fruity Jelly in Blueberry Burst, Cover Girl Wet Slicks AmazeMint in Happy Hour, Too Faced Sparkler Glamour Gloss in Sapphire Spark, Simply Sweet Flavored Lipgloss blue/purple swirl (no name), Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Caribe, Victoria's Secret Sweet Talk in Blueberry Shimmer.

Most of the blue glosses follow the same theme. They're either duochrome/glass fleck/crazy iridescent sparkle or clear gloss with a blue tint and/or slight shimmer.

Milani Movie Star, MAC Comet Blue, MAC Blue Memory, MAC Greenhouse, Lancôme Dreamworld, Philosophy Snow.

Maybelline Blueberry Burst, Cover Girl Happy Hour, Too Faced Sapphire Spark, Simply Sweet no name, Lancôme Carïbe, Victoria's Secret Blueberry Shimmer and just for fun, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Rx Lip Tar. Really stands out, doesn't it?

I recommend enlarging those swatch pictures so you can see all the pretty sparkle. Some of these are just gorgeous beyond belief. A quick description of them, in case the pictures don't speak for themselves:

Milani 3D Glitzy Gloss in Movie Star is a sheer blue tinted base with tons of duochrome sparkle. It reflects gold, pink, blue, violet, and at some angles, even a little blue and orange. It has a brush applicator, a somewhat thin texture and a soft orange creme scent.

MAC Dazzleglass in Comet Blue is also a sheer blue base with tons of duochrome sparkle, but it's even sparklier and more duochromey than the Milani. The blue sparkle is very bright and shiny and the dominant reflect color is purple. It has a more smooth and uniform sparkle and it reflects every color of the rainbow. It has a thick, sticky texture, a brush applicator and MAC's amazing creamy vanilla scent.

MAC Blue Memory Lipglass is a pale frosted blue with a slight greenish tint. It's on the sheer side, but it does stand out on the lips. It has the signature MAC lipglass texture and scent and the standard doe foot applicator.

MAC Greenhouse Lipglass is more green than blue, but it's definitely a blue-green. It's similar in finish to Blue Memory and has all the same features as your standard MAC Lipglass.

Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Dreamworld is a sheer blue gloss with a subtle silvery shimmer plus a small amount of blue glitter particles. It has a thick texture, a strong sweet spearmint scent and a slanted tip applicator.

Philosophy Snow Kiss Lipshine is a clear gloss with fine glowy blue shimmer. It's extremely subtle, but when the light catches it just right, there's a bright blue reflection and sparkle on your lips. It has a smooth but sticky texture, a sweet cool citrus scent and flavor (pretty much identical to Philosophy Senorita Margarita) and a slanted tip applicator.

Maybelline Fruity Jelly in Blueberry Burst is a sheer blue gloss with sparse blue/green duochrome glitter particles. This is the most subtle of all of them, it provides the least blue tint and the least glitter. It has a sticky texture, a weird sharp chemical fruit scent and a rounded tip applicator.

Cover Girl Wet Slicks AmazeMint in Happy Hour is a sheer blue-green gloss with subtle silver shimmer and a violet flash. It has a thin, slick, oily texture and a doe-foot wand applicator. The scent is a horrible combination of plastic/gasoline/chemical, weird vanilla and toothpaste. To be quite blunt, this is the worst one. Cover Girl Wet Slicks are some of the worst gloss I've ever used, I can't believe I even bought this one. They smell rancid even when they're brand new and they slide off your lips like pure oil. Guh-rosssssss!

Too Faced Sparkler Glamour Gloss in Sapphire Spark might just be the best out of all of them. It is a sheer base packed with glass-fleck style duochrome shimmer. It's the most multichromatic and sparkly of all and the packaging is really interesting. It shimmer is predominantly light blue, but slight changes in angle cause it to reflect every color of the rainbow. It has a thinner, less sticky texture than MAC Lipglass, a subtle citrus scent and a really unique twist-up tube with a plastic slant-tip applicator. I highly recommend the entire Sparkler Glamour Gloss line if you're into amazing duochrome glittery things like I am.

The nameless Simply Sweet swirl gloss (it's from Dollar Tree), is a sheer cobalt blue shimmer swirled with a very sheer light purple shimmer. The shades mix together on the lips and provide a light blue tint and subtle shimmer. It has a thick, smooth balm-like petrolatum-heavy texture (which I do like despite the cheap ingredients), a chemical blueberry scent and a slant tip applicator.

The Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Carïbe is a sheer medium blue gloss base with opalescent glitter. The glitter flashes pastel shades of yellow, orange, blue, green and pink. There isn't a lot of glitter, but there's two or three times as much as in Dreamworld. It has a thick sticky texture, a sweet, fruity, artificial blueberry-ish scent and a slant tip applicator.

The Victoria's Secret Sweet Talk gloss is a sheer green-blue base with frosty silver shimmer. It can look a little murky. It has a thick, slick texture and a terrible acidic/sour chemical blueberry scent- reminds me of some type of bubblegum, the big square kind... Can't remember what it's called. This was part of a set that came with an awesome sheer green shimmer.

And Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Rx? The bluest of the blue. I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with this one. It has a thin, dense, dry texture- it's all pigment. No shimmer or shine once it's set. It has a rounded tip applicator and a dry peppermint scent and flavor. This can be worn alone, but you can also add it to other lip tars to make your own color or to tone down some warmer shades. Very versatile, and nothing beats Lip Tar in the pigmentation department. Still haven't finished my Lip Tar review... I need to just buckle down and deal with the swatch-stained arms for a day! Those things are so hardcore!

Tell me I'm not the only blue gloss lover out there! Any of you guys have a blue gloss stash? Recommend me some more blues and tell me about your favorites!

Quick Duochrome Eyeshadow Comparison

Speaking again of Lorac... One of you commented (though, now I can't seem to find the comment) that the peachy gold/pink duochrome in the Multiplex 3D shadow palette looked like MAC Motif. I completely forgot I had Motif! I was comparing the brown/green shade to MAC Club so I figured I'd do a Motif comparison while I was at it.

On the left is MAC Motif and on the right is the top left shade in the LORAC Multiplex 3D Eyeshadow Palette. They're similar in theme- peachy-gold with pink-coral pearl/duochrome, but they're definitely different. The LORAC shade seems to have better payoff but the MAC is more duochrome.

Left to right: MAC Club, Too Faced Label Whore, L'Oreal HIP Intrepid, LORAC top right shade, Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Definer shade. Two unnamed shadows in one comparison, how about that? Out of all, the L'Oreal HIP Intrepid is the most duochrome and the MAC is the least. But they're all really, really close.

Snowy Eye of the Day

In honor of the ten-foot-tall snow piles in front of my house, I thought I'd post this snowy look I did a while back.

It's not my usual style but I thought it looked so icy and ethereal:

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Aromaleigh White Wedding applied wet on lid
MAC... something, soft grey shimmer? From the smoky eye holiday palette from 2007, in crease and on lower lashline
Fyrinnae Futuristic Glamrock wet as liner
Lash Blast

The trick to applying those flaky white shades (like MAC Frost) is to smooth them down with your finger after they dry. They can look a little rough and uneven when applied wet or dry with a brush, but after you press down the flakes a little they look nice and sparkly.

Wearing such light shades always makes my eyes look super black. I don't know if I like it =/

Fyrinnae Velvet Vampire Look

Remember the other day when I said that Fyrinnae's Velvet Vampire was a must have? I meant it. It is one of the greatest eyeshadows I've ever seen. It's a burgundy based duochrome; if it were a nail polish I'd call it a glass fleck. It has little pearls of iridescent crystal-like shimmer that shift colors and sparkle even in really low light. I did this look with it the other day and I couldn't get over how amazing Velvet Vampire looked. I wore Kat Von D Lightning Sheer Lipgloss in Stormy (smoky red shimmer) with it, but my pictures of that didn't turn out. My lip pictures never turn out... But anyway, I took a bunch of pictures of the eyeshadow. Gah, I love it so much.

Natural light:

Flash:

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Fyrinnae Velvet Vampire applied wet on lid
The black half of the Hourglass Prism duo in crease and lower lashline
MAC Reflects Blackened Red glitter on top of the black in the crease
Fyrinnae Cheeky to highlight
Black liquid liner (I don't remember which one I used)
Cover Girl Lash Blast

I know I didn't capture the full beauty of this color, but you can at least get an idea of how it looks. It shifts colors when you blink! It's so sparkly and sexy and vampy, it really does look like velvet. I couldn't have picked a more perfect name for this color myself.

On a sidenote, Cheeky is my new favorite highlight color. I'm going to have to order a full size soon. It's close to the color I would normally use on my browbone, but it's special 'cause it has a hint of red shimmer to it. Subtle, but really special. Makes a nice neutral lid color, too.

MAC Bad Fairy Nail Polish

I never got a chance to review this while it was still relevant. It sold out before it was even released! I ordered online and by the time the collection was fully added to the website, it was long gone. I hate that about MAC. There's such a rush for the limited edition items that they're usually sold out before we can order them :(

Nevertheless, it's still gorgeous so it's worth posting:

MAC Bad Fairy nail lacquer (Venomous Villains collection)

It has a sparkly glass-fleck finish (think Orly Cosmic FX) and it reflects coral, gold, burgundy magenta and a little bit of green. It's not a match anything I have in my collection; it's a little similar in theme to OPI The Show Must Go On but definitely not a duplicate.

Tarte MultiplEYE Lash Enhancing Mascara

Along with Revlon Grow Luscious, I have fallen for another mascara that claims to increase lash growth: Tarte MultiplEYE. It's more than twice the price of the Revlon so I'm only using a sample of it, but so far the mascara formula is impressive.

This was one of the samples I was most looking forward to from that Sephora deluxe sample set, but of course, they didn't include it in mine, waaah :( My mom, who ordered days after I ordered, got all the correct samples in her set, so she gave me her MultiplEYE sample. Thanks, mom :)

Here are all the lofty claims it makes on Sephora.com:

638%!! How can I resist a claim like that? It really does look nice, though:

That's the mascara by itself, no lash primer or Magic Lash or anything. I told you it was nice.

The eyeshadow is:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
MAC Pink Bronze pigment wet on lid
MAC Heritage Rouge pigment in crease and on lower lashline

I re-did the look the next day and added more eyeliner:

Everything is the same as before, except this time I used MAC Smoke Signals pigment wet as liner. A little less mascara, too. The sample was drying out already... It's only been used four times. Guess I'm pushing it a little.

I think I might have to splurge on a full sized tube. It looks great. Takes more coats than my favorite Lash Blast or Grow Luscious mascara, but the end result is so nice. The promises of lash growth might also be clouding my judgment... $24 mascara... Normally I'd be like, hell no! But... lash growth! 638% increase in appearance of volume!

638%. What a random number. But it's even better than that 500% effective voodoo curse removing spell that I keep getting ads for at the top of my email...

Valentine's Day-ish Eye of the Day

After seeing all the pretty pink, red and white Valentine's Day candies and decorations in the store, I felt inspired to do something similar on my eyes...

Sorry about the weird thing flash does to my skin. Everything turns orange and shiny. =/

This was:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
MAC Pink Opal pigment wet on lid
Aromaleigh Tainted Love in crease and on lower lashline
Fyrinnae Cheeky to highlight
The black from the Cargo Wet/Dry Eyeliner Palette, wet as liner
Cover Girl Lash Blast

It looks nicer without the flash, but it was too dark out to get a natural light photo. Pink Opal is a tricky pigment to use, but the end result is worth it. It has that flaky, chunky texture like some of MAC's pigments have, but I've found that the way to make them look even is to tap/rub them gently with your fingertip after you've applied it to smooth down the flakes. What you're left with is an ivory-white with pink duochrome. Very Valentines. The red looked candy-like so it was the perfect match for me. I love that red. No other red compares to it. I'm going to have to try Sugarpill's red to see if it's similar.

Now I'm thinking of a pastel look like those conversation hearts candies I like. The ones that are like rock-hard flavored chalk? Love 'em. I have to eat at least one box every year.

Brown/Green/Gold Duochrome Eyeshadow

Just two looks I did recently. Not a whole lot to say about them besides I love duochrome shadows! Can't get enough. Always looking for more. Duochromes are my weakness.

Can you see the color shift in both colors? Blue-green on red-brown and gold on green. Like seeing a butterfly or a moth wing up close.

This was the easiest look ever:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
M*A*D Minerals Illusion applied wet on lid
MAC Blue Brown pigment in crease and on lower lashline
A little black eyeliner (don't remember which)
Cover Girl Lash Blast

MAD Illusion is pretty much identical to MAC Old Gold. For some reason it seems more duochrome than the MAC, but then when I hold them side by side they seem the same. I think my mind is playing tricks on me. Maybe the smaller jar exaggerates the duochrome effect.

And then a play on the previous look:

I took a lot of pictures of this one to try to show all the different colors. There's gold/yellow, green, brown, red, black, orange... It keeps changing depending on the angle. Man, I love duochromes so much.

This was an easy one, too:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
M*A*D Illusion wet on lid
Too Faced Galaxy Glam shadow in Moonbeam in crease and on lower lashline
Fyrinnae Wicked applied wet as liner
Lash Blast

Fyrinnae Wicked is a duochrome, too. It's a dusty dark violet with a green flash to it. Fyrinnae has a ton of great duochrome/multichrome/whatever-you-want-to-call-them-but-they-change-colors shades. The whole Arcane Magic line, for example. I love them for that. But, you know, I'm always open to recommendations for awesome duochrome shadows if you wanted to share your favorites with me :)

Holiday Looks

I can't believe Christmas is over. So sad. It's even sadder because all the snow melted right after Christmas! At first I thought it was great because it was 55 degrees (!!!), but the very next day it went right back down to 15. Ugh. If it's going to be this cold, I demand snow!

The holidays were pretty good, though. I got a bunch of awesome presents for Christmas, got to play a lot of Guitar Hero and put together the annual gingerbread house with my family and I didn't get sick at all! I always seem to be sick on Thanksgiving or Christmas, but not this year!

I never did end up doing a different mani for Christmas- the snowflakes stayed on. I sorta ran out of time... Didn't need to stay up until 4 am to do my nails!

But I did snap a few pictures of the eye looks I did...

This was Christmas Eve's look. I wanted something super festive and last year I did this combination of red lid with green crease that didn't really work that well... This combination looked much better! Though, I wasn't totally happy with the gold...

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Aromaleigh Party Dress on lid
MAC Emerald Green pigment in crease and on lower lashline
Pure Luxe OMG wet as liner (I know, I know.)
I don't remember which mascara, but it was either Lash Blast or Grow Luscious

I put some red Aromaleigh glitter over the liner but it didn't show up at all, you couldn't see it at all in real life and I don't see it in the pictures, either.

For Christmas Day I wanted the same kind of look as the last one, but I thought the gold was too shiny. I decided on a matte green instead and I liked it better:

I see specks of mascara on my lid that I didn't notice until I looked at the pictures. Huh. And don't worry, I fixed my brows.

This one was:
Shadow Insurance
MAC Bitter on lid
MAC Emerald Green in crease and on lower lashline
Pure Luxe OMG wet as liner

I love a matte lid. It always looks so smooth and soft focus. Matte lid with glittery stuff everywhere else! Except not much glitter on these days. I did plain red lips. I don't think I can really pull off red lips.

Then, after Christmas was over, I felt all sad and wanted to do black and grey:

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Fyrinnae Dinosaur Plushie wet on lid
Hourglass Prism (black half) on lid and lower lashline
I don't remember the mascara or the liner... Everything is kind of a blur...

Dinosaur Plushie is really pretty, I didn't really capture it well in the pictures. It's a silver with hologram-type shimmer. It goes on a little... rough? Flaky? But it's so nice and sparkly.

And then, on New Year's Eve, I just wanted to go all out.

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Silver half of L'Oreal HIP Platinum Duo
Black half of Hourglass Prism duo
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy over Platinum
MAC 3D Silver glitter packed on top of Pixie Epoxy
Kat Von D Autograph Liquid Liner in Black Metal Love
Cover Girl Lash Blast with a little Magic Lash between coats
(A little Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray over the glitter to keep it on all night)

I haven't had any luck using Pixie Epoxy as a base for shadows, but it is EXCELLENT for getting glitter to stick. I had almost zero fallout- all the fallout was from the brush, not my lid! And it stayed on without fallout all night. I put the Pixie Epoxy on pretty thick over the silver HIP shadow and immediately patted on a bunch of MAC 3D silver before the epoxy had a chance to dry. Perfection.

And to make it even more ridiculous? I wore OCC Anime lip tar. Anime is the most ridiculous neon pink ever and I adore it. I've been meaning to do a Lip Tar review for ages... I need to get on that.

I didn't make any New Year's Resolutions yet. I'm thinking I'm going to try to spend less time online... Maybe I'll resolve to review more random items from my collection... Or maybe not to wait a year in between haircuts? Hmm... I'm drawing a blank. Did you make any resolutions?
